The story behind the coin
The portrait side shows Elizabeth II wearing a tiara, surrounded by ELIZABETH II D G REGINA. The reverse places CANADA above two people paddling a loaded canoe, with an island and trees behind them. The date 1965 and DOLLAR appear below. These two faces come from a single paired photograph; the surface marks and darker silver tones belong to the photographed specimen.
