The story behind the coin
This Heritage Auctions photograph shows both sides of an 1870 two-dollar coin made for the Newfoundland Colony. The reverse expresses the denomination three ways: 2 DOLLARS in the center, TWO HUNDRED CENTS above and ONE HUNDRED PENCE below. This is colonial Newfoundland coinage, not a modern Canadian toonie.
