The story behind the coin
The seated figure, staff and shield on one face are accompanied by FIRME Y FELIZ POR LA UNION and UN SOL. The reverse carries the Peruvian arms, a wreath, the Lima mint inscription and the date 1870. The animal, tree and spilling cornucopia make this design distinct from the royal-portrait coins in the collection.
