The story behind the coin

The national side shows a tree, RF and the French motto inside a hexagonal outline, with 2000 split along the bottom. This entry pairs it with the original common one-euro face showing the pre-enlargement European Union, rather than the later geographical map. The ECB documents that design distinction. Both photographs are by Mark Morgan but show separate examples of the matching design version; their lighting and wear are preserved.

Which side is heads?

Heads
The French tree design, RF, LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ and 2000.
Tails
1 EURO and the original map showing the European Union before its 2004 enlargement.

A different coin. The same fair toss.

The artwork changes, but every virtual toss still has a 50/50 chance of heads or tails. We simulate the movement; the result is chosen independently. This is not a simulation of the physical balance of a historical coin.
